The OTN (Optical Transport Network) is a network infrastructure suitable for a diverse and extensive data traffic and offers a level of network speed and bandwidth required today. OTN has been proven to be the only optical technology to encapsulate the high-capacity payloads required by packet-based devices such as Ethernet switches and routers. But most importantly, OTN is the only optical transport protocol specified for data rates up to 100 Gbps.
OTN is often called the "digital wrapper", as it is ideal for transmitting different services in one wavelength. The optical transport can be implemented very cost-effectively and in a standardized way. Combining this with optical switching results in much better wavelength utilization and increased productivity. MICROSENS sees the OTN technology as an essential pioneer for more effectiveness and therefore also provides products in this segment. The products are fully compatible in a multi-vendor OTN environment as well as in the client access to an OTN switched network.
The 100G aggregation card is a compatible OTN product from MICROSENS is. An OTU4 protocol is implemented on the line side via a QSFP28 interface. OTU2 services can also be included on the client side.
MICROSENS also offers another 100G OTN-Muxponder card, which converts the OTU-4 protocol via CFP on the line side. The functionality on the client side is identical to the 100G aggregation card, as there are 10xSFP+ client interfaces available. The corresponding 100G transponder card works on the client side with a 100G CFP port and on the line side with a 100G OTU4 CFP port with forward error correction for the transmission of the 100G in an OTN network.
On the OTU2 level MICROSENS offers a 6-way transponder with 6 multi-protocol SFP+ client connections and six SFP+ OTU2/OTU2e line ports with FEC. This solution enables very efficient 10G service transmission over an OTN network.
