The Fast Ethernet Bridge Modules (IEEE802.3u) used within the MSP800 platform are available in both single bridge (10/100Base-TX to 100Base-FX) and twin bridge designs (2x 10/100Base-TX to 2x 100Base-FX).
The integration of older equipment and existing Ethernet segments into fiber-based Fast Ethernet networks is often a problem. With a copper/fiber bridge a media conversion can be realized very easily, but a speed adjustment is not possible. The two-port bridge, which carries out a corresponding speed adjustment in addition to the media conversion solves this problem.
The data rates 10 and 100 MBit/s are adjusted. Additionally, a combination of the half and full duplex operating modes is possible. The existing length restrictions for Ethernet segments (5 km) and Fast Ethernet (412 m) in half-duplex mode can be broken in full-duplex mode. This allows the expansion of hub-based networks that only operate in half-duplex.
In addition to multimode versions, MICROSENS offers single mode bridges with adapted optical parameters. This allows wide segment couplings from 15 km in the basic version up to 125 km in the extended version. The focus of the application of these single mode versions is mainly Fiber to the Home (FTTH) projects. Internet services, video on demand and VoIP applications are then available to the end user via the familiar 10/100Base-TX copper connection.
The copper port is configured either automatically via the auto-negotiation protocol (10/100Base-TX) or manually via integrated configuration switches. The fiber port is configured manually for half or full duplex operation.
The Auto Crossing function on the twisted pair side makes it unnecessary to distinguish between crossed and 1:1 patch cables. The bridge automatically detects the assignment and adjusts itself accordingly.
