The Ruggedized Micro Switch with 24 VDC power supply is a further development of the optically comparable Micro Switch from MICROSENS. This special version of the micro switch has an extended operating temperature range from -25° to +65°C and an adapted DIN rail mount. The Ruggedized Micro Switch has been designed for use in outdoor enclosures and control cabinets. The switch, due to its features in terms of network interfaces and software functionality is an alternative to the Industrial Switch. With the Ruggedized Micro Switch, MICROSENS offers an extremely economical alternative when redundant power supply and I/O contacts are not needed, in the most compact design (90x45x74mm).
The Ruggedized Micro Switch 24 VDC is available in different uplink versions, in addition to two fiber optic ports 100/1000Base-X SFP ports (then 4x 10/100/1000Base-T), one fiber optic uplink 100/1000Base-T (then 5x 10/100/1000Base-T) and a pure TP variant (6x 10/100/1000Base-T).
With the double fiber optic variant MS4402x7MXH-G6 (2x 100/1000Base-X SFP slots), the second optical interface can be used for fiber optic-based topology expansion (e.g. bus or ring topology for redundancy purposes).
The area of application is, for example, large-scale network solutions for the connection of transformer stations. Here in addition to the use of fiber optic for wide-range communication (outside areas of company premises, inner-city fiber optic networks), remote administration and IT security functions are also required as well as 24 VDC as a voltage source.
The 24 VDC version of the ruggedized micro switch is characterized above all by the direct 24 VDC power supply without the using of an external power source. This has an effect on the space required in the construction project, 24 VDC are very often available in the application area (district heating networks, transformer stations for recording and forwarding data, etc.).
The console port (deactivatable, password-protected) is used for direct management access to the high-performance Layer2 management. Its based on a future-oriented Linux operating system. The many features (especially in the area of IT security, IEEE 802.1x, VLANs IEEE 802.1q etc.) are shown in the firmware feature list (see download area) and makes the Ruggedized Micro Switch an optimal, decentralized network distributor.
Access to the switches is password-protected via all common management interfaces such as browser-based (via web browser https/http), SSH, SNMPv3. MICROSENS NMP software optimizes access to a large number of micro switches within a network using group and master configuration.
The microSD card slot can optionally be used as a backup system for firmware and configuration. The complete device status can be transferred by exchanging the card. The memory card complies with the industry standard. A fault-tolerant journaling file system is used, which can be encrypted using the security option.
